Paris is a huge topic which I think I‘m not gonna be able to cover completely. Anyway, there are other things which are happening during my stay here. It relates to my career. I know I‘m a student, but my lovely British university offers me taking a gap year when I can develop my knowledge on the workplace = the placement year. Recently, in my first semester, I have taken a placement module which helped me a lot to get the insight into the preparation of the year in the industry. Me, I have chosen marketing major and I have been pernamently looking for a placement position within the UK but also abroad and applying for the ones which suited me better. The selection of the area of the marketing was the hardest part but I knew for sure what I don’t want to do – sales. I like leadership, managing people, leading by the example, innovation, digital marketing but I also really enjoy the creativity in the advertising and the communication in the PR. It was still my part of the study (marketing, advertising and PR) and there were a few companies which offered me exactly what I want.
It is a long way to go....
Month ago, roughly, I applied to Oracle. And week after I had a telephone interview. It was my first one real time telephone interview (before I had for a different company a video recorded interview). It was great, I loved it. Literally, I feel great giving her (the recruiter) the information about my career experience and what I’m doing in Paris and my presentation skills etc. On the other hand, I‘ve realised the competition and how many people could possibly apply to the same position but I know I have something to sell. And I sold it pretty well, I was really interested in the position because they offered not only marketing but advertising and dealing with media as well which was exactly what I was studying and can’t believe someone can make it real and connect everything.
Nevertheless, they invited me to come to London for an assesment centre so in a few days I’m going to the centre of London Oracle office to show them how great I‘m :D. Before, I had two tasks to do, the first one was creating the promotional advert about myself and the company, I’ve decided for the TV advert and now I’d like to thank to my friends who participated and helped me to finished it. And the second task is to choose a favourite marketing campaign and I have 4 minutes to present it in London. Wish me luck.
Few days ago, I applied to Lenovo, they offered 4 placements in different marketing departments. I was interested in the communication one, sent a CV and the cover letter and today I had another telephone interview (they have selected 33 people). They asked me totally different questions which was a nice surprise, it was also more relaxed. Yes and we see if I will be invited to Hook in March.
To be honest with you, it is all about your own attitude, when you try, you can do it. Definitely the hint no.1 is to create a good, an excellent CV, I was working on my CV months, I always deleted something and added something and used different words and it does not matter you are not British. There is no discrimination (I hear these opinions that is why I mentioned it). Everyone has the same conditions and chances. So fight, run, don’t stop.
I applied for more than 15 positions and I was successful in two. I have had more rejections, of course. Hint no.2: do not apply for everything what you see, think about it first.
Thank you and I will share the second part after the London experience.
