I'd like to write a bit more about French culture and their ways of thinking. At the beginning of my Erasmus, I really struggled with French knowledge of the English language. I came to Paris with a weak B2 in French and when I left I consider myself having strong B2.
Anyway, the point is,they don't like talking in any other language than French one. The national proud is so strong... possibly. It's not too hard to deal with it and it helps you to practice or learn their language.
The funny habit I experienced was eating the end of baguette on your way home. The end is the crispiest part of the baguette, still warm when you take it from boulangerie/bakery.
I have also one impolite habit. It regards the customer service in France. One of my friend's saying:,,France would be a beautiful country without French people." It is very subjective. I think, people create the culture, thus the country. Unfortunately, the way they deal with customers is incredible. It is very fast like ,,Gosh, I wish this was behind me! Annoying tourists?" You can read it from their eyes, seriously. Also, they have their time for everything, so if you will sit in a restaurant for 20 minutes waiting for someone takes your order, relax, you are in France. Waiters have their own culture which is hard to understand.
Third habit is definitely kissing. No stretch to say that France is the land of love. Kissing is the way Frenchs say hello, goodbye, congratulations and of course: I love you. I miss kissing on both cheeks. It's called ,,faire la bise".
One of the weird one is drinking everything at the room temperature. Yes, Frenchs hate drinks on rocks. Every time I have been in a pub, they rolled their eyes when I ordered vodka on rocks or cold coke. Cultural habit.
The last and the most important one thing I remember from my exchange program from Paris is that French people hate changing their habits! You can try to learn them something new but they will always stick with the old and the good French one. So good luck!
